Man of Constant Sorrow

Once the refugees had arrived outside the gates, it hadn't take long for the rumor mill to begin churning. Even before the Oberon station leaders were able to make statements to the council, theories were already flying.

Asche listened to a cluster of soldiers in the hall outside her bunk. They were discussing what they had heard, trying to parse reality from rumor. Several factions had been named, but the Rangers were in agreement that the Reich seemed most likely.

After she had put away her gear, Asche changed into a fresh set of clothes. She left the others to their gossip and left the quarters to go in search of Damian. Red and Violet were there, so she was assuming he would be as well.

Damian had let Derek go out to find something better to do then just sit there which gave Damian what was considered a semblance of silence despite the constant hum of noise outside. He was exhausted and disappointed by how many people they lost in the journey. He was rubbing his face as he considered dozing when he heard his name come up outside.

It was a woman's voice which didn't seem normal.

So he got out of his bed to go outside the room to see who was inquiring. "Not who I was expecting," he admitted when he saw Asche.

"It's not a bother," he said as he stepped aside to let her in closing the door behind her. "I'm the one that got stuck watching the rooms while everyone else went out," he advised her as he went to sit on the edge of the bed in the room though he and Derek would be sleeping on the floor.

"Right," she answered, shifting briefly as she wondered why she'd let Chuck talk her into sticking her neck out. She should have known better than to take romantic advice from someone involved with Dagonet, "Well if that changes let me know. My duty tour usually ends around seven. I'm not expecting to be going far for the next couple of days," she said before starting to excuse herself.

Damian wasn’t the most impulsive of people but the way she said that meant something different then the way she had blown him off last time when he’d gotten injured. He took a second of contemplation which was normally significantly longer than the actual split second he took right now.

Standing up he cut her off and reached up to wrap his fingers around her neck. “Why are you here?” He muttered as his thumb stroked her jaw hoping he wouldn’t get punched right that moment.

Asche halted abruptly as she felt his hand lock against her neck. It caught her unprepared enough to freeze for a moment as her gaze lifted to his. She felt a little uneasy, heart rate picking up as his thumb rubbed against her jaw, "Like I said... Just thought I'd check in when I heard."
