Brothers 2

Recommended Posts

The crew of two Oberon people, Seth and some other guy, were ready at the gate. They were being escorted by a Ranger. It was supposed to be another one but it was substituted last minute for the last person Seth wanted to see.

Richie walked up to the group and pulled his mask on. “Let’s get this over with,” he said as he began toward the air lock to head the out and get the parts that they needed for the broken down piece of shit they were trying to repair.

The delay had Seth shifting impatiently. He didn't see the need for an escort but the guards wouldn't open the air locks without for whatever reason. Finally he was informed they were ready.

Seth exhaled slowly when he saw his brother appear. Of course they'd send Richie.

He nodded once to the younger man as he pulled on his gas mask. Otherwise he stayed quiet as the heavy gates groaned and heaved open.

There was a significant amount of investment going into getting as many of the Oberon people out of Polis. It was already overcrowded and getting worse so making sure expeditions for parts went successfully were important. Even if the stalkers Oberon was sending out didn't come back.

As the airlock heaved open he readied himself and stepped out with his brother. It was uncomfortable for both of them but Richie had a job to do.

They would head off in the direction of where they were told there should be some of the parts that Chuck and Ilia needed to repair the train.

The start of the trek was mostly silent. The stalker that had come with Seth was older and all business, knowing the dangers of the surface. The trio moved quickly and quietly as they navigated the torn streets.

"Not liking the look of those clouds," the stalker grumbled after about an hour and a half.

Seth glanced up at the darkness on the horizon, "Might blow past if the wind doesn'tshift."

"I agree with Aleks," he said.

Richie had been watching it too but he agreed with his brother, he was pretty sure it was just going to blow right over them. What he didn't like hearing were the howls from the watchers on the wind. He looked to the older man who didn't seem as perturbed but the way they were howling was what set Richie on edge.

"We'll see," the man shrugged as they continued on.

Seth looked toward the sounds of the howls on the wind. They seemed largely scattered, but some seemed to be getting closer. He shifted his rifle and picked up pace a bit.

Richie and Seth moved well together, as they always did. The wind would shift but not toward them but away from them. It was a little bit of a detriment as it made the howls lighter in sound. He frowned, but the shift was pulling the clouds away from them.

Though the calls were no longer as loud Swth stayed alert. He knew at least some of the mutants in the city would be heading their direction to evade the storm. It meant they would be less likely to attack, but that didn't matter if they ended up directly in the path of a pack.

"Another few kilometers and we should be there," the stalker said after another half hour or so.

They would get to the location no trouble but the stalker wasn't particularly bright as he started to try to extract the item. "You're going to break it," Richie said. "You need to stop," he added before he shoved the man out of the way. "You're going to break it you idiot. Do you not listen?"

Richie grumbled. It wasn't the first ignorant savant that thought they could tear something out and it would still work or be workable when they got back. Pulling his pack off Richie grabbed a few of his tools and started to work on it.

Unfortunately, the winds finally turned and that storm was incoming. So were the watchers.

While Richie worked on the part Seth steered the other man in search of others on the list. He felt his nerves spiking as the winds shifted and picked up.

"It's about time to wrap this up," he muttered to Ivan after a while as he stowed a couple of the tools and parts he'd found and started back to where Richie was working.

Richie had pulled the part out and was working on another when they came back around. "You two can head back," he said. "I'll follow when I'm done," he advised them.
