Surface Sickness

In the middle of the night after the breakfast with their family Alice woke up feeling sick to her stomach. The open wound on the surface combined with the fact that Alice hadn't been on the surface for years had gotten her sick.  She pulled almost violently away from Seth as they slept retching onto the floor re-opening the wound on her face from opening her mouth too wide in the process.

It smelled immediately of blood and vomit as she rolled to the floor and retched again. She was burning up, her face was throbbing and she felt like the room was spinning, like she had just had far too much vodka and tried to stand up too quickly.

Seth woke to the sensation of Alice accidentally driving an elbow into his side. He winced at first as it made his busted ribs ache, but the pain was soon forgotten as she wretched. As she moved fully off the cot he sat up right, blinking to clear his vision, "Ally?" he asked, brow knitting in concern.

He shifted to swing his legs from the side, reaching to set his palm against her shoulder. When he started to pull her hair back Seth felt the heat radiating from her skin.

"Shit," Seth muttered. Still holding her hair back with one hand he stretched for his pack, snagging the strap and dragging it close enough to get his canteen, "let's get that shirt off you dorogoya. you're burning up."

Alice just sat there on her hands and knees for a moment not indicating that she understood as she coughed and spit onto the ground. When she finally did move she pushed up to sit so Seth could help her off with her shirt. "The room is spinning," she muttered as she teetered into him when the shirt got to where she couldn't see.

"Just hang on baby," Seth murmured, supporting her with one arm while using the other hand to get the longer sleeved shirt off, "should I take you to the bay?"

Seth guided her gently toward the door. He stopped just long enough to snatch up the towel he'd used earlier, tossing it down over the puddle in the floor - he'd clean it later.

Once they were out of the little shelter Seth turned into Alice a little more, "Hang on," he warned before lifting her up into his arms. He didn't like the way she was trembling against him. With that he started for the medical bay, doing his best not to jostle Alice any more than necessary.

Alice wrapped her arms around Seth's neck to help balance her weight a little better not that she believed it was much help at all as he walked determinedly toward the medical center. She could feel her mouth watering like she was going to vomit again and she kept swallowing but it continued. "What's wrong with me Seth?"

"I'm not sure baby," he answered as he carried her. It was uncomfortable with his ribs, but Seth ignored it, "I don't think its the cuts getting infected, at least?" he offered, trying to give a little bit of good news, "They look a lot better."

Alice huffed. She wasn't sure that was true, she felt burning hot all over. Sick, her head was spinning. She could feel the sweat dripping off her. Her stomach was trying to make her heave. "I don't want to die," she muttered to him.

She felt like she was dying and down here knowing what to do wasn't a guarantee down here. "Okay, Dorogoy," she muttered to him although she didn't sound particularly convinced. It seemed like forever before they got to Medical.

Seth clenched his jaw and swallowed. He'd been concerned before. Now he was afraid. Alice wasn't a damsel of a woman. In their time together, he'd watched her grit her teeth, grin and bear pain and hardship as well as any soldier.

He picked up his pace to get her there faster. It felt like it took too long. As he reached the entrance Seth kicked the heavy metal door back against the wall to get attention, "She's sick," he explained as the first of the staff appeared, "she's burning up and puking, she can't stand -"

They were quick to react, at least. A table was wheeled out and Seth got Alice settled down, He followed as they wheeled her off, careful to stay out of the way but keeping her in sight.

Alice felt the room spin again, she gripped at what she was put on and wheeled back. It was the only thing that kept her from heaving over the side of the cart they pulled her back on. She turned her head back heavily into the metal . The cool parts calming her down a little.
