Damian ground his teeth, the movement making his jaw shift but not the rest. "We all have to go through it on our way in," he said after he nodded finally. "What the fuck has your knickers in a twist?"

"Look down you stupid son of a bitch," Asche growled, motioning briefly with the barrel of her gun to where the rubber soles of his combat boots almost appeared to be melting - the edges bubbling and beginning to expand as the chemicals from the slime trail devoured the material.

Damian frowned and looked down at his melting boots and that was certainly disconcerting to the point that it indicated they needed to go back. "Why the fuck did you tell me to put down my gun then?" he asked stubbornly.

"And because it's eating at my boots it's like I've knelt down to lick it, yeah thanks," he said as he brushed past her angrily to start heading back toward the entrance to the station as he wasn't sure, with the rate that the boots were melting at, that he could continue his trek like he wanted to. He didn't want to admit it, but if she was right she likely just saved his life... otherwise she was just being paranoid.

Asche took a long step back as he came back toward her, avoiding any sort of contact as he brushed by. For a moment after she hesitated. briefly wondering whether or not she should allow it at all.

In the end she sucked in a breath and went trotting to catch up.

He was a stubborn prick who didn't have enough sense to listen to a fair warning, but that didn't necessarily make him a bad sort. At the very least, Asche determined, he didn't deserve to be shot in the back over nothing more than precaution.

For now they'd both just have to get back and get cleansed,

It was fortunately a short trek back albeit it was a terse and seemingly longer one than it actually was. Damian was nearly oozing with frustration. When they got back he was put through to be decontaminated once he said what it was. Apparently Stalkers had come in raving with the stuff on them.

He didn’t even have it within him to look at Asche before they quarantined him off and he had to strip so that they could make sure the shit didn’t touch him.

Asche was fairly certain she hadn't come into contact with any of the slime left by the creature. Even so, she submitted herself to the same examination and hosing down. It was better to be safe. No one - at least not to her knowledge - fully understood the effects the strange residue had. Asche had seen men turned to foaming lunatics after brushes with it. She'd also heard stories about people being dissolved into gelatinous puddles in their sleep, among other things.

They were separated off in the process. It was a little swifter for Asche since there was no visible deterioration of her boots or clothing, One of the medical staff determined there was no reason to submit to a full drenching down, then sent her on her way.

Asche left her gear for a precautionary cleaning and headed back for her small quarters. Right then she figured she'd take a rest, then go check on Damian once a little more time had passed.

Damian ended up being quarantined for twenty four hours and even if Asche tried to check in on him she would have been sent away. When he got out he went back to quarters to change into something clean before he chose to go straight back out topside to complete what he was doing the previous day but to make sure he avoided whatever he stepped in the previous day.
