Red pushed on as long as possible. But eventually the sun began to set, and for all her efforts to conceal it Violet was starting to whimper with every breath. He knew that meant she was hurting badly.

Finally, they came upon a building that had a Spartan safe mark carved by the door. Red stopped them, taking a moment to look around. There was still no sign of what had been stalking them. He was almost starting to wonder if there was really anything there at all.

"Come on, in here," he pulled Violet toward the entrance - slowly pushing open the door and calling out to see if anyone was inside.

The building was secure, at least. It bore all the marks of a typical Spartan supply cache.

"Wait here," Red pulled away from Violet, letting her lean against a wall as he waded deeper into the building to search out and disarm any traps that might have been left. The only ones he found were set against back entrances. Red left them alone, figuring they could come in handy.

Once he was convinced it was safe, he came back to bring Violet further in.

The rest made the injuries on her leg feel worse so as Red helped her further Violet whimpered more. "I don't think I'm going to make it home this time baby."

"I don't think it's the best to come back with a corpse either," she muttered to him. "Whatever it is out there is following me. There is no sense in letting our kids be orphaned twice."

"They'll benefit more from you being around than they ever would from me," he answered as he got her settled on one of the pallets that were left against a wall, "I'm not leaving you here, Vi. Discussion over."

Violet huffed through her nose but she knew the battles to fight with her husband and this wasn't one of them so she just settled closing her eyes.

"You should have told me you were coming out here," Red grumbled as he ran a hand down her leg, pulling out his knife to cut the  fabric away and expose where she'd been cut while falling through the hole, "I would have come with you both. Or sent someone."

Red glanced up at her,  but chose not to answer. She was right, they both knew it, and it was a moot point now..

instead, he turned his attention back to her injury, shrugging off his pack to find the medical kit to clean her up again, "Maybe we'll get lucky," he murmured after a minute or so, "have a couple of Spartans drop in and deal with it for us."

Violet hummed. "The luck that requires. I don't think either of us have right now," she nudged him. "We've had some of the best karma in our lives."

"I don't know," Red shrugged, "this place looks like it gets used fairly frequently... Although, that doesn't necessarily mean its been the Spartans," he conceded. Anyone who passed by with a keen eye could make use of a place like this - Stalkers, Soldiers, it didn't matter as long as no one got violent.

"You cut yourself up pretty good," Red frowned as he finally got a clear look at the gash in her leg. He reached for the kit and rummaged, pleased to find what he needed to do a field stitch. Maya would probably have it immediately redone when they returned, but he was proficient enough to get the job done.
