"You're going to mind yourself," Dag countered evenly, "I don't understand why Chuck wasn't more suspicious, but I don't like what she described. I want to know what they were looking for and you aren't going to let your temper get in the way unless you want to be stripped back down to a buck ass private."

Joe nodded as she watched him leave her tent to wait outside. The men and the girl were just a few tents away. As soon as her hands were patched up she moved outside and pointed to it. "That one there," she said to him.

Dag nodded as she indicated their location, "Wait out here," he murmured, pausing to brush down his uniform a moment. Once composed he squared his shoulders and strode inside to confront those waiting.

Inside the medical tent, Dag found the usual set up of medical supplies by the bed, in which was a groggy man with bandages covering his face, mostly around his nose which had swelled up quite nicely. Meanwhile cuts and bruises covered what was left that could be seen briefly peaking out from behind the bandages. Sitting on a chair next to the bed was a woman, somewhere in her mid twenties who looked sick with sorry and was shuffling around in the chair, trying to contain it, meanwhile, standing near the right wall of the tent was an older man in his mid-fifties and balding who merely looked in Dag's direction, seemingly not surprised someone else would come by.

"....Need something, sir?" Grischa asked, getting ready for whatever else this day could throw at them.

As he entered the room, Dag's gaze cut swiftly around. He noted the details of the room. Took a measure of the three occupying it. The one that had them in there made for a sorry sight.

Ultimately he fixed his attention on the oldest of the bunch, "I have some questions for the girl."

Katya stopped her nervous movements and focued on Dag.

"...I'm guessing for those rooms she found?"

"Am I in trouble?" Katya asked nervously.

Of course you are idiot! Her mind shouted at her, and she began to look around, ready to run if need be.

Katya shifted in her chair again.

"I know that...they aren't allowed for non-maintenance workers." She began. "But I..." She continued then looked towards Grischa, seemingly for answers and the old man just nodded.

"I...I needed to know, if the stories about Polis being connected to Metro-2 were true. If they were connected to Emerald City. I had only heard rumors before today, at least of the tunnels you guys have here." She explained then sighed. "I know that Metro-2 is probably why it's forbidden from going in there rather than any equipment in there but like I said I had to know.

"She has this..." Grischa began then sighed. "Obsession, Ranger. About all of it, we've tried telling her Metro-2 is pretty much just empty stations and that Emerald City is bullshit--"

"It aint bullshit!" Katya interrupted and Grischa sighed once more.

"All you've got are rumors, Katya." Grischa began, sympathetically but also seemingly too tired to really care anymore. "I know you want to find it but they're just rumors."

"From a reliable source." She countered back, quickly becoming annoyed. It seems this conversation is one they've had many times before.

"Adam will be the first to tell you that--"

"That the area around the University is radioactive, more so than the rest of the city? Yes I know. That Rameniki is overrun with mutants? Yes, I know--I know all of it Grischa, but I trust him. I trust he knows what he's heard, who he's talked to..." She continued, seemingly having forgotten Dag was there by now.

"Trust doesn't trump facts, Katya. No one is alive, or human in that neighborhood." Grischa explained.

Dag listened to what the girl began to say. He listened even more intently to the argument that soon evolved from her defense. The ranger's gaze flickered back and forth between them. Otherwise there was no indication of what he might have been thinking.

"What exactly are your intentions for this search?" he finally interjected once there was more than a breath between their rather heated exchange - at least, heated on the girl's side.

"Please don't get her started..." Grischa mumbled, other than a dirty look Katya ignored him. For a moment after she was silent, seemingly thinking of the best way to explain her reasoning, and by now Grischa was more so looking off at something on the floor, ignoring the world around him as Katya began to speak.

"...I can't take it anymore. The metro I mean...or at least this one. I was born down here, this is all I know....all I'm used to yet I just can't keep doing it. I can't keep sitting around, going from station to station like a nomad, seeing...children starving, seeing plagues spreading through stations, seeing Hansa getting greedier and greedier, seeing my own Redline continue to collapse. I can't stomach hearing more about the Nazi's attacking stations just to kill a handful of mutated people, I can't stomach hearing more stories of bandits raiding caravans and stations and doing just...the most awful things to those they capture, I can't keep hearing more and more about cults and cannibals spreading in the far stations or any of the other horror stories I hear because of these two--" Katya said loudly, gesturing to the still semi-conscious Misha and the tired looking Grischa. "--taking me all over the metro with them.

"So...yeah, I may have believed a rumor that those maintenance tunnels of yours had a metro-2 connection, you Rangers controlled D6 for Lenin's sake, metro-2's own little command center--what else was I suppose to believe!?...Most people would've just shrugged at hearing those stories but I...I don't know I'd rather find someway inside the University...if those rumors are true, if it exists, as they say it does, even just a little bit..." She said with a saddened look, knowing how stupid and foolish, and downright desperate her thoughts and fears sounded. Grischa once more cut her off.

"You'll get yourself killed, even it they're true, Katya. You'll cook on the surface or get eaten before you get close to the University." Grischa told her. "...You think any of us like the shit we see day to day?" He asked and Katya remained silent but stared defiantly at Grischa who merely sighed once more and shook his head.

So far the girl had been far more forthcoming than he had expected. Initially, he'd entered prepared to make threats and use every ounce of leverage he held to pry answers out of the group. So far her answers came so easily that Dagonet couldn't help but wonder if it was all rehearsed. Maybe she was just an excellent actor.

Still, he listened as she launched into another ramble. Her expressed motivations were relatable. They might even have been admirable, were it not for her naivety. D6 had been destroyed and decommissioned since the battle against Korbut and the Red Line. Rumors ran rampant, in the aftermath, but few in the metro knew the reality. They still believed D6 had been a cornucopia of plenty that could have supplied the metro for years to come.

"What's your name, girl?" he asked when presented a moment to do so.

"Katya," he nodded once, "you have admirable enough reasons. But it doesn't sound like you understand the potential repercussions. Some doors down here are better left sealed forever. And if D6 was any means to measure by, then any Metro-2 line that may exist beyond that is best left buried."
