Joe clucked her tongue she was hung over, not drunk and honestly just annoyed. She wanted to point out to the dumb girl that despite her accusations and even with her being a dumb cunt she hadn’t lifted a finger toward. “I can take care of this,” she said. “I’ll get her back to grandpa. I have an idea of where he is.”

"When your done Valkov and I have need of you by your father, Joe." Voloyda muttered.

"I aint going anywhere with her." Katya muttered.

"Would you prefer to just wander around aimlessly looking for Grischa? Joe's usually got good intuition, the sooner you find the old man the sooner you leave." Volodya explained and Katya just nodded after a moment and Voloyda walked over to a bench, leaned against the wall on the other side.

"I'll find you later, Joe...." He muttered and closed his eyes briefly. "It's too early for all of this bullshit, can't have one good day can we?

Katya shakes her head, mumbling something to herself but seemingly just to reinforce her 'no.' Volodya sighs and shakes his head.

"Good luck." He mumbles, seeing that Katya is going to be one of their issues today.

As soon as Voldya was out of sight Joe grabbed the girls arm firmly. "Unlike your prick of a boyfriend I'm actually going to help you," she said as she closed her door behind her and started to move to where she assumed the old man would head. Which, with how pissed he was with Misha yesterday, Belikov. If Katya tried to pull Joe would just tighten her grip on her arm.

Katya would give a slightly movement with her arm to try and get away from Joe as she was lead to Belikov but soon got the message and stopped as Joe lead her ahead.

Soon Joe lead her to Belikov's office, just as the door was opened by Grischa who stopped and chuckled softly as she came by.

"Speak of the devil...." He muttered.

"What?" Belikov asked and walked over. "Oh, good, that saves us a morning...." Belikov muttered. "Good job, Sousa. You found her..." Belikov added, speaking up.

"Found is relative, she wasn't really lost. She came to bitch at me about her boyfriend. Who she still somehow thinks is a saint in all this," she said releasing the girl patting her on the head like a dog but making sure Grisha had her before she fully pulled back. "Now I've got my own shit to deal with," she said turning around to leave. She didn't want to but she knew Valkov was pissed and would try to trump shit up to Marcianus and right now, with everything going on, she really didn't need Valkov's bullshit lying ass up hers too.

Unless stopped Joe continued on her way to the infirmary where her dad was still being held. "What do you want?"

Voloyda had beat her to Joseph.

"Oh, Joe. Finally. Where gonna get everything we need out of the old man before Valkov forces us to get it out of him this way. I figure we get him to talk about everything, I get a report to Valkov then we head out of his tent, go our separate ways, something tells me were both gonna have our own little shitty mornings anyway.

"And are you interested in Valkov forcing you to do it?" Voloyda asked with a sigh. "Come on, Joe.....this problem won't disappear no matter how much you ignore it.

And Voloyda gave a dark chuckle and smiled back.

"And it came right on back years later, Joe. You want to deal with this shit in a few more years when he's knocking on deaths door, bitching and moaning even louder than he is now!?--I know I sure don't!" Volodya asked loudly then stopped, shaking his head.

"....You don't have to talk with him about everything, or rebuild your relationship or whatever." Voloyda began. "When I gave Valkov the report on what little your father told us there was something that he mentioned that caught Valkov's attention; and my own. Some place called The Carnival." Voloyda explained. "That's what the major wants more than anything...your father refuses to talk about it with you present. We get that, then you can toss him aside like trash if you want to, that's what the major more or less said anyway...." Voloyda continued then gestured to the tent with Joseph in it.

For the past day, Misha had been, for lack of a better term, ‘grounded’ and awaiting the return of Grischa and Katya at his tent. He had thought they’d be here late last night, but that came and went, and they had yet to return this morning. Most of that time had been spent ignoring the staring from the citizens of the stations and stewing in his tent, angry at Grischa for practically grounding him. That’s what this was, a grounding, he knew if he wasn’t here there’d be hell to pay from the old man and like a child part of it frightened Misha. Year’s spent wandering the tunnels and surface, fighting mutants and man alike, facing the horrors of the Dead City and the one thing that actually forced him to obey was an old man…

Thirty four years old…to old for this; go to the bar, do something… His mind commanded, and by now realizing it’d be sometime before either Grischa or Katya returned he began to reckon he could make his way to the bar, get some food or a drink and be back before their return.

With a tired sigh, Misha forced himself up and off his bed before leaving his tent and heading to Serpukhovskaya’s bar, already filled to the brim with the usual townsfolk and stalkers, all of whom gave him a wide birth and stared at the bandages covering his face.

“Misha?” a heavily accented voice asked and Misha turned around, finding a stalker in the usual radiation suit sitting down at a table, gear resting on the floor next to him. It had been a few days since he last heard that voice.

“Adam?” Misha asked, walking over, mostly shocked. Adam was a friend of the family so to speak, and while he had not been mentioned by name in Katya’s letter that she had left before running off to Polis to find those Metro-2 tunnels. Much like her, Adam had his own little obsession in finding Metro-2 tunnels and Emerald City, but where Katya wanted to find the fabled city under the university to make a home, Adam wished to loot it, something Misha could agree with if it wasn’t for all that radiation.

“The one and only…” Adam muttered. “What the hell happened to you?” He finally asked, gesturing for Misha to sit down.

“It’s a…. long, long story….” Misha began.

"You say that like its easy. Like magically if I don't ignore it that its going to go away easier. You do realize going in that room and listening is going to make it even harder right? That letting him tell me anything will make me doubt that he just left me here to die. I don't want to fucking hear it Voldya. The man left me to die and I didn't fucking die. That is that. There isn't anything else I need from that fuck."

Voloyda sighed and nodded.

“Joe, I…can’t say I know exactly how your feeling, I had an ok relationship with my parents, but would you rather live in some…. angry fantasy?” Voloyda asked seriously after struggling to figure out what could best describe this weird mentality of hers. “You can say he left you to die all you want but what if he didn’t? Would you rather hate someone for something they did not do, or shun them for something they didn’t do? From what he’s told us he got kidnapped—yes, I know that’s a stretch Joe, I do, I know very few people are brave enough to fight a stalker unlike you but what if you’re wrong, Joe?—Just tell me…what if? What if it’s true and your father is just the unluckiest man to ever live and he did get kidnapped while out on the surface? Are you willing to take that chance?” Voloyda asked and soon continued with trying to figure out some way to convince Joe to enter Joseph’s tent and then continued on, with a more sympathetic and caring tone.

“We’re not…asking you to forgive him, to love him, or start acting like his little girl again—we get it, those days are gone, their dead and buried, we get that, Joe. I get that and I can tell this is just fucking you up inside. I can tell that your pissed and hurt and…scared at least judging by what your telling me now but Joe…just ask yourself do you want to feel that way for the rest of your life? Angry at some old man? Hurt over something he might not have done? Do you want to spend the rest of your life hating him? Do you want to spend the rest of your life scared that you might be wrong when the truth could be right in that tent?”

After a brief moment of silence, he forced himself to give something of a smile and shrugged. “All were asking is for you to be present so we get something from him, let him say his piece and that’s it and…I promise you if your not convinced, or if your still angry or even if you just want me to I will personally drag him out of Polis and back to the surface if you want me to, Joe. I promise.

--------------------------

“Jesus, that is a serious pickle you’re in. It’s not like her to give people the cold shoulder…and Grischa, he’s no doubt gonna have it in for you when he gets back.” Adam said, once Misha had told him everything that had occurred at Polis. All Misha could do was nod. Part of him was angry at Adam, he was the one who told Katya of those tunnels…but right now he needed help rather than to cause further problems.

“I can handle the old man yelling at me…or giving me the cold shoulder, whatever…but Katya. Her silence, that look…” Misha began and Adam nodded.

“She’ll come around.” Adam muttered. “She’s not the one whose basically banished from Polis…”

“No, but she’s still gonna be pissed.” Misha said. “And they’ll probably be locking down those tunnels even more so than usual after all of this.” He continued and Adam nodded, his look soon becoming more serious and his voice begin to rise slightly.

“She’s no doubt pissed over more than that…” Adam responded after taking a swig of his drink, leading Misha ahead to what the stalker was truly concerned over.

“I know, I know…” Misha grumbled and leaned forward on the table, thinking everything that happened over.

“Do you though?” Adam asked annoyed. “You keep poking the bear.

“Yeah, I do but—” Misha began.

“Eh-eh, no buts!” Adam yelled. “Who gives a shit what that bitch thinks, and who gives a fuck that you lied. Even fucking Vasha knew your little story was shit, it was a fun little horror story but we all knew. This ranger though…” Adam continued then shook his head before heading back to the topic at hand.  “Just stop poking the fucking bear—grow up, either avoid her like the plague if you come across this ‘Joe’ again, or man up and own up to your lie, anything to stop you from getting your ass beat. You can’t win every fight, and getting into more of them won’t help you either, especially not with Katya. She, like everyone else whose with a stalker, already worries enough about them surviving on the surface—you getting into fights with rangers, spartan fucking rangers, is not helping, Mikhail!” Adam continued to yell, gathering more stares from everyone at the bar.

“I know!” Misha responded.

Joe stopped listening to Voldya part of the way through. She was already angry enough and the honest answer was.... she was stubborn enough to never know and stay mad at her old man the rest of her life. It wasn't like it was going to be much longer necessarily and she didn't have some kid to pass on any stories of her father down to. At this point she knew she likely never would have a kid. Every scare always ended up the same way... a blooded mess with a lot of cramps.

"Alright... alright. If it'll get you to stop talking I'll go in there but I swear to god I may punch my own dad so just be prepared. Especially if that pompous prick Valkov comes along and starts being an ass. I don't promise to cooperate though. If he tries to ask me shit to give you more information you are fucking screwed."

Joe was already in a mood enough and honestly wanted to be the little spoon to Ilia right then but she couldn't be so she just walked into the tent glaring at her dad as the war of wills began.
